What Is A Recovery Key On Mac

broken image

If your Mac can't start up from its built-in macOS Recovery system, it might try to start up from macOS Recovery over the Internet. When that happens, you see a spinning globe instead of an Apple logo during startup: To manually start up from Internet Recovery, press and hold either of these key combinations at startup: Option-Command-R. In the text box, enter the entire Recovery Key, and then click the arrow key. If successful, the key will unlock the encrypted startup disk and take you back to the login screen.

At some point as an administrator you'll be faced with the scenario whereby you'll need to gain institutional access to a Mac, you'll need to create what's known as a Institutional Recovery Key.

  6. Open, Keychain Access
  7. From, the Menu click, File > Add Keychain and add the FileVaultMaster.keychain located in /Library/Keychains/
